Reflection on cooking.

In January this year, as I started semi-retirement, I wanted to cook better and with more of a healthy focus. I ordered a Fruit and Vegetable box from Farmer's Pick and I get it delivered every fortnight. This has been great, I can nominate four things I don't want, and then what I get is a surprise. I've learnt to cook fennel, roast beetroot and find many ways to cook eggplant. This week I got fresh Broad beans - I do tend to buy mine frozen, like peas, podding seems quite a task. But I Googled it, and there is double podding! But I ended up with lovely green broad beans and mashed sweet potatoe for dinner.

For those of you who are observant - yes I also got a mango. It was green when I took it out of the box and I thought it was a small melon. Then my hands started to tingle and my fingers swelled. And it started to turn golden. Sarah, who cleans my house, was given the mango. I'm allergic to the skins of a mango and to the trees, I can't even stand near one. I do love mangoes so again I buy mine frozen.
